Cathedral of the Nativity of the Mother of God
Built in 1834, the cathedral of the Timok Eparchy of the Serbian Orthodox Church.
The Serbian Orthodox Cathedral of the Nativity of the Mother of God was built in 1834, a year after the area was finally ceded to Serbia. It stands at the beginning of the town's modern history: Zaječar was at that point turning from an Ottoman settlement into a Serbian town.
Zaječar is the seat of the Timok Eparchy of the Serbian Orthodox Church. For visitors the church is chiefly a short, quiet stop in the centre – and a good starting point for walking the area around the main square with the National Museum and the Radul-beg konak.
