Cellar houses in the wine village of Rogljevo in the Negotin region

45 km from Zaječar

Negotin wine country

The wine landscape north of Zaječar, with the cellar villages of Rajac and Rogljevo.

North of Zaječar, around the small town of Negotin, lies one of Serbia's oldest wine landscapes. Its emblem is the cellar villages: enclosed ensembles of stone cellar houses where wine was made while people lived in the village proper.

Rajac is the best known, with around 270 cellar houses; Rogljevo is the smaller one next door. Together they sit on Serbia's tentative list for UNESCO World Heritage status. A visit needs a car and, ideally, a tasting arranged in advance.
