Zaječar Gitarijada

A rock festival for young demo bands running since 1969 – one of the largest of its kind in south-eastern Europe.

The Gitarijada is why Zaječar has a name in Serbia that reaches beyond the district. The rock-focused music festival has been held since 1969 and still pursues the same aim: to promote young demo bands. It ranks among the largest festivals for emerging bands in south-eastern Europe.

It takes place on Kraljevica, the park-forest hill south of town, which turns into a festival site for the duration. For Zaječar this is the week of the year – accommodation in town books out early.

If you are coming for the festival, do not leave the room search to the final weeks, and expect the spa houses in Gamzigradska Banja and apartments in the surrounding villages to fill up too.
